What is the weirdest/hardest thing that has ever happened to you in a job search?
- IQ and personality testing – so invasive!
- I was lowballed by ED and when a board member realized it they called to apologize. The ED sent a gift to my house and I felt really pressured to accept position.
- I applied for a job posted with a salary of 75k, and when they emailed me with the offer they offered me 70– and edited ALL job postings to lower the range (I could see the posts had been edited within 24 hours).
- An executive leader was interviewing me for a director level position, she asked a question and as I began to answer she left the room. It was very awkward and I turned to the other person in the room to continue my answer. She returned to the room but her behavior continued to be strange, and distracting. She gave no explanation. I finished the interview but by the time I left the building I was sure I did NOT want the position and did not want to work there.

What is a piece of advice you would give your younger self about how to land a dream job?
- Know that they’re lucky to have you. You don’t have to sell yourself short, play small, or minimize your worth to be chosen for an opportunity.
- Always be searching, continue educating yourself, the company has no loyalty so always watch out and be ready.
- Be yourself in interviews. For so long, I tried to model what I thought professionalism looked like. Now, I am in my dream job because I threw that out the window and decided to be myself. If somewhere doesn’t accept you for you are during the interview, they aren’t where you want to be long-term.
- Be ambitious, know your worth and don’t second guess it.
